Check out our research into the Wrangell Institute, which operated from 1932-1975 as a boarding school for Alaska Native youth. The program was administered by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs.

In 1875, Nellie Cashman led a rescue effort in the dead of winter. She organized a pack to carry desperately needed supplies to gold miners trapped in the snow and ice up the Stikine River. She became forever known as the “Angel of the Cassiar.”
